David rose to his feet and said: “My brothers and my people! It was my desire to build a temple where the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant, God’s footstool, could rest permanently. I made the necessary preparations for building it, but God said to me, ‘You must not build a temple to honor my name, for you are a warrior and have shed much blood.’ [1 Chronicles 28.2-3]
The 'man after God's own heart' was disqualified to build the Temple of God.
Wow, what a bummer for David! But what about the irony of a man who has shed much blood being prevented from building a place where much shedding of blood would take place (sacrifices)?
Father, some days I do better than others at understanding some of the events of the Bible. Today is one of those days that I don't really get it. Help me to think on these things throughout the day and receive some insight from You as to what these things mean. Thank You.
