It seems a downward spiral began in David's life starting with the Bathsheba incident.
David lusts after Bathsheba and she gets pregnant, he premeditatedly murders Uriah, they lose the child, and it just seems to me like everything began to go contrary for David. His daughter Tamar being raped by her own half brother would have to have been a terrible thing for a parent to live through. But that story only gets worse as Absalom then kills Ammon in retaliation.
What happened to David? Did he "blow it" with God permanently? What went on in his head? David wrote some very encouraging songs about forgiveness, but as of today's reading in the One Year Chronological Bible, it doesn't seem like he's "at the same place" as he was before the adultery/murder episode. Is it even possible for David to return to life as it was before his downfall?
No doubt sin leaves it mark on all of us. But is that God's doing or our own doing?
Father, regardless of theology, we all have to deal with sin. I realize that some sins cannot be undone - whether forgiveness is granted or not. Help me to grasp more accurately how it is we are to process these events and how they apply to us today.
