David's Story

What are we to make of David's story with Uriah's wife?

In some ways, it would be nice to simply ignore this mistake in David's life.  In other ways, it makes me wonder why David is given any further consideration and fame at all.

Why elevate a person who would do such a thing?

On the other hand, why hold a single indiscretion against David?

So very much emphasis is placed on David's life.  We even cherish so much of the Bible that was actually penned by David (many of the Psalms).  How can an adulterous murderer remain such an icon of Christian faith?

Do we not convey a message by what we allow or disallow?  And, have we not 'allowed' David? (we sing his songs and proclaim his victories)

I'm not upset with David today (but should I be?) however I am asking myself some questions about this man and his story.

Father, why have You allowed David to remain such an important figure in Christian history?
