More conquest was documented today. When Israel moved in, they moved in! One exception was that Israel was unsuccessful in removing the Jebusites from Jerusalem.
One could argue, "But what about all those people groups that Israel displaced... didn't they have rights?"
As has already been noted, the question above is actually a big part of the whole story - just a largely untold one. God was punishing the occupants of Canaan as well as blessing the Israelites. It just worked out that the two plans worked hand-in-hand for God.
How many times do we encounter that same scenario where God is doing two or more things simultaneously as far as individuals are concerned, but it appears as one thing as events go? God is quite capable of accomplishing multiple agendas through one main event.
When you are God, you can do things like that! You can orchestrate intricate and magnificent series of events that work together like a clock to accomplish many things, the cumulative principal of which is God's purpose.
Father, I can see again today that you are in control. Let my life fit in to Your plan in a way that is most cooperative. Let my life be a blessing.
