God Is In Control

Israel's conquest of the Promised Land was no small thing.

God had promised to give Canaan to Israel and the events that fulfilled that promise were exceptional beginning with Israel's exodus from Egypt.  Upon entering the Promised Land, much war ensued leaving an enormous amount of dead people.  War is ugly.

I think sometimes we should pause just to consider how many people in fact died as a result of Israel getting their Promised Land.

We should also consider that God Himself stated that the people whom Israel annihilated were evil and that Israel's victory over them was not so much because Israel was so good, but because those they overcame were so bad.

It is probably useless to try to figure everything out and make logic of it all, but one thing is certain: God is in control.  Sometimes He promotes peace and sometimes He promotes war - it all depends on what He is doing in any given situation... I like to think back to the formative years of the United States of America and its Revolution...  It makes sense to me that God would have been promoting the freedom to worship Him in peace, but is that all there was to it?  Was there more?

Father, I don't understand everything but I wish I did!  Help me to be focused on listening to You in what lies before me.  Please give me the strength and resolve to follow through with Your plans as You reveal them in and through my life.
