“All these detestable activities are practiced by the people of the land where I am taking you, and this is how the land has become defiled. So do not defile the land and give it a reason to vomit you out, as it will vomit out the people who live there now. Whoever commits any of these detestable sins will be cut off from the community of Israel. So obey my instructions, and do not defile yourselves by committing any of these detestable practices that were committed by the people who lived in the land before you. I am the Lord your God.” [Leviticus 18.27-30]
The detestable activities mentioned here were mostly all sexual in nature. There really is something to pay attention to in regard to sex and a viable relationship with God.
Rarely does anything bad in practice occur all at once. Usually, bad practices begin small and grow from there. The problem with this lies in the gradual amoral grooming that results. If a "little" sin is allowed, then "a little more" usually makes no impact. The ultimate outcome is gross immorality.
The solution is to avoid even the smallest allowance of sins like these. This really presents a problem when already sins like these have become accepted.
God promised the Israelites that they would be "vomited out" just like the Canaanites if they too practiced the same immoralities.
In modern culture, thankfully, incestuous relationships remain unacceptable. However, homosexuality has become increasingly more accepted (as of this writing, this has become very prevalent in the United States).
From a purely objective point of view, has not history proven the earth's and God's rejection of such practices? I am aware that a new movie is being released about the city of Pompeii, a city know for sexual immorality. Is there any chance that this new movie will put the fear of God in our society? No, we can be sure it will likely produce exactly the opposite result.
God help us - God help me!
Father, as I consider the amoral grooming I have been subjected to on a daily basis, I realize how "tolerant" I have become of that which You find detestable. By Jesus, please forgive me.
