On the way to Egypt, at a place where Moses and his family had stopped for the night, the LORD confronted him and was about to kill him. But Moses’ wife, Zipporah, took a flint knife and circumcised her son. She touched his feet with the foreskin and said, “Now you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” (When she said “a bridegroom of blood,” she was referring to the circumcision.) After that, the LORD left him alone. [Exodus 4.24-26]
Sometimes the details can be so confusing! Why was God going to kill His chosen man Moses?
I suppose if anyone could figure God out, then we would have no need for God.
And the whole circumcision thing is totally strange. Why not cut off a lobe of the ear or something? More clearly, why would the identifying "mark" of God's people require that one's penis be examined? Didn't Noah's son Ham get in trouble for seeing his father's penis? Circumcision, in all its importance, sure requires a lot of penis gazing!
Father, my mind races with practical questions today. Help me to listen to you and not my own head!
