Not That It Matters...

Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. [Matthew 4.1]

I don't know that I have ever posed this question: How did Matthew know this story?  Was someone (besides Satan) with Jesus during this time of temptation?

I mean, it is easy enough to see that people were present at Jesus' baptism and were therefore historical sources of detail for that event.  But what about this temptation?  Is it not reasonable to assume that perhaps there was an audience - a group of people whose intent was to follow and see what became of this One upon Whom they had witnessed God's very Spirit descend?

Not that it matters...

Father, I think I should consider that those closest to Jesus stayed with Him.
