Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this? [I Corinthians 2.15-16]
Two kinds of people: Those who are being saved, and those who are perishing.
It is intriguing how Paul words this. But it does bring into perspective the fact that our lives are a journey - a process the progress of which is quantifiable. Hmmm...
At any rate, we must be aware of this fact as we relate to others. First, how we receive the knowledge of Christ from others reveals our own condition. And, second, how others receive the knowledge of Christ from us reveals their condition. So now I can understand why Paul says, "Who is adequate for such a task as this?"
Father, I want my life to accurately portray the knowledge of Christ - first and foremost in grace. I want to let Your Word move freely in and through me.
