They Talked It Over

Then the king, the governor, Bernice, and all the others stood and left. As they went out, they talked it over and agreed, “This man hasn’t done anything to deserve death or imprisonment.” [Acts 26.30-31]

They talked IT over? They talked WHAT over? These people heard the Good News of Jesus and apparently 'talked over' the legality of Paul's actions rather than the message of Jesus Christ. They were 'right there' and missed the message entirely.

How many times today as so-called believers do we hear the Good News and, rather than rejoicing in the fulfillment of our hope, we get all caught up in the details of the story? We become totally absorbed in the legalities (referring to the Law of Moses) and miss the fulfilment of the Fulfiller Himself!

And, speaking of fulfilment, Paul's words in Acts 26.6 give us today something to think about... The matter at hand today is not whether we are 'right or wrong' according to the Law of Moses, but rather whether we are fulfilled in Christ.

Now I am on trial because of my hope in the fulfillment of God’s promise made to our ancestors. [Acts 26.6]

Father, I want to focus on Jesus as my fulfiller today!
