Politics. We complain today about the negative influence of politics as if it were a new thing. But clearly politics had a role in Paul's situation in today's NT reading. And, suffice it to say, the issues were just as cloudy then as they are today.
Religion. We complain today about the negative influence of religion as if it were a new thing. But clearly religion also had a role in Paul's situation in today's NT reading. And, likewise, the issues were just as cloudy then as they are today.
Yes, there were key factors in Paul's arrest and imprisonment, but there was also a lot of emotion being acted upon without substantial evidence.
Recently, I have been struggling with a growing sense of apathy regarding all things political and all things religious. It just seems to me that our political and religious systems are broken and irreparable. But when read about Paul's plight in today's NT reading, one thing stands out to me; Paul did not give up.
Father, as I survey the political and religious environments in which I live, give me strength to stand for what is right and just without wavering.
