What got Paul into so much trouble in Jerusalem? It was his apparent departure from the Law of Moses.
That very same turmoil rages today. The modern church still struggles with the Law of Moses.
Today's NT reading contains a wealth of information about Paul and the early church. It is worth reading this passage in Acts 21.18-36 over and over - attempting to absorb not only what it details specifically, but also what is implied. For example, out of fear, the church leaders in Jerusalem told Paul to join in a purification ceremony (an act clearly associated with OT law) so that... "Then everyone will know that the rumors are all false and that you yourself observe the Jewish laws." [Acts 21.24b]
In other words, "Let's make it look good..."
Really?
Father, help me to exalt Jesus regardless of pressure to "make it look good"!
