John chapter 17 is a prayer that Jesus prayed. Do we dare believe that Jesus asked anything here that God would not answer? Was Jesus praying for things here that were outside God's will? Is it possible God gave Jesus the religious "yes," "no," or "not now" answer? Is it possible that God simply would not answer Jesus?
If we answer "no" to these questions, then it would behoove us to pay very close attention to what Jesus prayed. A good place to start would be to meditate on the fact that Jesus acknowledged His oneness with God and prayed the same for us. Now that is a big deal!
Everything Jesus did in His lifetime on earth was for glory to God. He prayed that we would likewise glorify God. What does that mean? What actually did Jesus DO while here on earth?
Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. [John 17.18]
What really bothers me more and more is that WE decide which of the things Jesus did we will likewise do, and, which we will not do. What gives? Really.
Father, I admit is scares me to think of approaching this earth as did Jesus. But He is my example. Give me grace to follow!
