Salt

So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own. [Luke 14.33]

Those are pretty straightforward words! But...

Uhmm... Uhhh... But...

But...

I seriously don't get the "salt" thing. What does it have to do with 'giving up everything'? Is the salt to be compared to our relationship to God (without which we have nothing)? I am really not at all sure what this is about.
