There is such a difference between the OT and NT readings today. The OT reading is all about ritual and following the protocol set out by God to Moses. As a result, God appeared in what was evidently quite a display of power (consuming fire). Unfortunately, for two of Aaron's sons, they experienced first hand the consuming fire of God as they violated the protocol (ritual) and were killed.
Then comes along Jesus. No ritual - no protocol. But just like the spectacular display of power in Moses' time, Jesus displayed a different kind of power - one that is the result of faith instead of ritual. Think about it - the very power of God in full demonstration following... a series of critical rituals? No! This display was following a dead sleep! Quite a contrast from Moses' day!
What can faith do in our lives?
Father, help me to keep this question before me today. Help me, as Jesus did, use my faith not necessarily for myself, but for others...
