Meaningless Existence

‘When they see what I do, they will learn nothing. When they hear what I say, they will not understand. Otherwise, they will turn to me and be forgiven.’ [Mark 4.12]

If we "miss" Jesus we have missed all. There is no forgiveness apart from Jesus. There is no understanding apart from Jesus. There is no knowledge apart from Jesus.

Jesus indicates that we should find knowledge, understanding, and forgiveness in Him. Could it be that Jesus is challenging us to base these three things on Himself?

Today, knowledge abounds. We have more information at our disposal than ever before. But if Jesus is not the basis for that knowledge, it would seem we know nothing.

Furthermore, it would be the natural assumption that with all our contemporary knowledge, we would have heightened understanding - a better comprehension of 'cause-and-effect.' But if Jesus is not the foundational component of that understanding, it would seem we have missed the point - living only in a series of random circumstances that have no connection.

And finally, with a failure to see Jesus as the beginning of knowledge and understanding, there is no hope of forgiveness.

Jesus is giving us a progression in these three things. If we fail to include Jesus in all things educational, there is no hope of understanding. And without Jesus in that understanding, there is no hope for forgiveness.

And without forgiveness, there is nothing but meaningless existence.

Father, I do not wish to have meaningless existence on this earth. Let my life speak of Jesus.
