“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” [Mark 9.23]
Here today in Mark we have more dialog by Jesus that creates some real theological turmoil for many. Just like the "faith of a grain of mustard seed" talk elsewhere, Jesus directs His listeners away from the "sovereignty of God" idea and puts the responsibility for the miraculous entirely on the faith of the people.
Question: Did Jesus perform miracles as man or as God?
Next question: Did Jesus' disciples perform miracles as men or as...?
I really worry (yes, worry) that so much of the "sovereignty of God" teaching we adhere to today is merely our own prideful refusal to accept personal responsibility for our lack of faith.
Father, "I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!"
