Confrontation! Once again, Jeremiah is in the middle of trouble. Hananiah confronts him in the temple right in front of everyone saying their captivity to Babylon will only last two years. Jeremiah responded with a serious challenge that ultimately accurately forecasted Hananiah's untimely death two months later. Ouch!
Jeremiah goes on to urge the people to carry on with life in Babylon because their captivity will last seventy years. Then Jeremiah addresses Shemaiah about yet another contradiction to the 'Word of the Lord' Jeremiah proclaimed. Talk about having to put out fires!
I wonder if, like Paul explained to Timothy in today's NT reading, I "help people live a life of faith in God." 1 Timothy 1.4b Here in verse 4 Paul was encouraging Timothy to try to put a stop to endless discussions that only lead to meaningless speculations. Then in verse 6 Paul says, "But some people have missed this whole point..." Hmm.
So, the 'whole point' is to help people live a life of faith in God. That's simple! Or is it?
God help me to help others live a life of faith in You. Let all those I come into contact with, including those who follow along in this blog, be encouraged to live a life of faith that pleases You.
