Money Talk

Oddly enough, for all Solomon's talk yesterday of death being the "end" of it all, today, Ecclesiastes is closed out with a statement contrary to that idea. 12.13-14: "That's the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone's duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad." Sounds to me today like Solomon has a better grip on life after death.

2 Corinthians 8.1-15. Money talk. Why should we be surprised or disgruntled with ministers today who talk about money when Paul himself makes quite a dialog about it here? Money is essential. Money is essential to life in general. No one can deny this. Money is essential for the proper administration of the church and its ministers. Paul is here on record in verse 8 of saying, "I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches." Our money and our love are closely associated.

Is it not once again amazing that the Psalms reading today speaks of wealth?

Lord, thank You for all You have given us. Of course we experience different degrees of this blessing from person to person, but the source is the same... You! Let our lives be such an example of giving that we need not be scolded or reprimanded for failure to do so! Let the church and its work in the earth today thrive because of willing and generous hearts on our behalf.
