Erotic Writing

"This is Solomon's song of songs, more wonderful than any other." Song of Songs (otherwise known as Song of Solomon) 1.1. Boy, I'll say!

Those who deny eroticism's place in the Word of God and therefore in our own lives must surely have their heads in the sand. There, I said it. In whatever way we may succeed in associating this Scripture with the relationship of Christ and his church, we may NOT dis-associate the obvious sexually-charged face value of it!

For what it is worth, I find no mention (or even suggestion) of God anywhere in today's Song of Song's reading. Quite frankly, to associate my relationship with God to what I read here today is almost embarrassing - it almost seems a little "over the top."

In our "fear-of-anything-sexual" Christian society, can you imagine a drama troupe reciting this "play" before a church audience? HA! It would be declared apostasy (and that for only "reciting" it - not acting it out)! And yet, the verses of the Song of Songs are neatly tucked within the very same Book we rely on to justify our challenge of things openly erotic.

In no way should we be sidetracked with a pursuit of eroticism and miss the fullness of what God is saying in the entirety of the Word. BUT we cannot deny the physical intimacy described here in the Song of Songs! There IS a time and setting for eroticism. And there is such a thing as pure sinless eroticism. And in contrast to the misconception that pornography birthed eroticism, let it clearly and boldly be stated here - God created eroticism!

I believe the church has "freaked out" over eroticism (much like it did with alcohol in the prohibition) and therefore literally destroyed people because the church refused to give the issue proper perspective! I believe marriages suffer today because of a "prohibitionist" attitude towards eroticism.

Ok, surely this will warrant some feedback...

Lord, I need Your heart. Help me as a human to accept and enjoy what You have created me to be as a sexual creature without losing sight of YOU!
