There is also some clear dialog for Babylon - oh yeah, God hates pride too. Babylon displayed a lot of pride and self-confidence but God says to them, "(I) punished them (Israel) by letting them fall into your hands."
Ephesians yields some interesting reading today. Chapter 4 speaks to the issue of 'calling.' For every person seeking their 'place in this world' Ephesians 4 should be their inspiration for doing so. There IS a plan for our lives. We DO have a destiny. We CAN live with purpose! Paul makes this statement quite clearly.
There is also good reason for each person to walk in their calling: "...to equip God's people to do His work and build up the church, the body of Christ." Ephesians 4.12. The ultimate (and desired) outcome of this is maturity in the Lord resultant to our unity in faith and knowledge of Jesus.
Other benefits of maturity in Christ are detailed in verse 14. They include:
- no longer being immature
- not being misled by false doctrine
- immunity to deception
This is good stuff! Then verses 15 and 16 define the beautiful state of maturity in Christ with words that are certainly inviting to the reader (at least they are to me!). The more I read and understand the apostle Paul, the more, at times, I think of him as a Christian romantic. But wait! Isn't that the whole story of the Bible? Is not the Bible all about God's love for mankind?
God help me walk in Your calling. Help me promote unity in the body of Christ. Let my life be an example of this to all.
