I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name. [Psalm 138.2]
God's "unfailing love and faithfulness" seem to be a theme throughout the Bible. These characteristics of Yahweh must never be doubted. And yet, they are the characteristics which are most often questioned.
The fact that these characteristics are in question more perhaps than any others should be no surprise to us because the enemy of God would like nothing more than to cause us to doubt the characteristics most important to our salvation. Without God unfailing love and faithfulness, there would be no salvation, "For God so loved the world..."
We should not overlook what the verse above indicates about where God's unfailing love and faithfulness are found: in His name. What blows my mind is that the Bible interpreters, for years and years have masked the name of God, Yahweh, in their interpretation of it! Instead, they interpreted His name as "the LORD" (the small caps font indicating the presence of God's proper name in the manuscript). This most powerful name in the universe has become basically unknown by Christendom where it should be most well-known. In fact, we very much have a tendency to avoid those as some kind of fanatic who use the name "Yahweh".
The discussion above is made even more relevant when we look at the last part of Psalm 138.2: "...for Your promises are backed by all the honor of Your name."
So, not only unfailing love and faithfulness are found in the name of Yahweh, but also every promise He has ever made is backed by all the honor of His name. His name is Yahweh!
Father, help me to understand the importance of Your name, Yahweh.
