Walk It Out!

Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” [Genesis 18.14]

This question should remain front-and-center of our minds every moment of every day.

Actually, we are asked this question every day and answer it multiple times. Our answer however may not be what we think..

Is anything too hard for the LORD?

Is it too hard for the LORD to provide a house or car for me without man's money-making system of debt?

Is it too hard for the LORD to protect me and my belongings without man's money-making system of insurance?

Is it too hard for the LORD to heal me and keep me well without man's money-making system of medicine?

Is it too hard for the LORD to help me have contentment without man's money-making system of technology?

Is anything so hard for the LORD that it requires the help of man or man's enterprises to accomplish it?

God did not ask Abraham, "Is anything too hard for the LORD?" because God was not sure of His own capabilities. God was not struggling with His confidence or ability to deliver on His promise of a son to Abraham and Sarah. God asked Abraham that question to see where Abraham was in his belief.

We should understand that God's question to Abraham was attached to His assurance (promise) that within a year, Abraham and Sarah would have that which God had promised. In modern vernacular, Genesis 18.14 could read like this: "Do you doubt Me? Hold my beer!"

But there is a deeper perspective on this matter that should be understood: Isaac was not to be conceived by immaculate conception, Abraham and Sarah were required to materially participate in the process - they had to have sex. In their particular faith-opportunity, Abraham and Sarah had to "walk it out" in the bedroom.

How do we, then, "walk it out" in God's promise to provide for us?

How do we, then, "walk it out" in God's promise to protect us?

How do we, then, "walk it out" in God's promise to heal us?

How do we, then, "walk it out" in God's promise of peace and rest?

If Abraham is any example to us at all, then we "walk it out" with what we have. Abraham and Sarah had each other and, in the simple action of doing what they knew God had already ordained for a man and his wife to do, they would see God move. Abraham and Sarah had only to "plant the field" with "the seed they had." To be absolutely sure, what God required of Abraham and Sarah did not require that they turn to anyone or anything outside themselves and God.

So, how indeed do we "walk it out" in God's promise to provide for us? We work, eat and sleep, doing what it is God has ordained that we should do with what we have, knowing it is not too hard for God to provide everything we need without the burden of debt.

How indeed do we "walk it out" in God's promise to protect us? We work, eat and sleep, doing what it is God has ordained that we should do with what we have, knowing it is not too hard for God to prevent or remediate anything that might cause physical or material loss without the burden of insurance.

How indeed do we "walk it out" in God's promise to heal us? We work, eat and sleep, doing what it is God has ordained that we should do with what we have, knowing it is not too hard for God to make and keep us well in every situation until our time on earth is done without the burden of medicine.

How indeed do we "walk it out" in God's promise to give us peace and rest? We work, eat and sleep, doing what it is God has ordained that we should do with what we have, knowing it is not too hard for God to be our contentment without the burden of technology.

ANYTHING that presents itself to us as a financial, psychological, physical or material "aid" should be suspect as an idol attempting to displace/replace God in our lives thwarting pure unadulterated faith in Him alone. Debt is a tax on greed - not "walking it out" in God's economy. Insurance is a tax on fear - not "walking it out" in God's protection. Medicine is a tax on death - not "walking it out" in God's health. And, technology is a tax on discontentment - not "walking it out" in God's provision.

The world desperately needs them, but, do God's people need debt, insurance, medicine and technology? The answer to this question is one and the same as the answer to God's question, Is anything too hard for the LORD?

Father, open our eyes and ears to the truth about Abraham's faith. Help us to "walk it out" regarding our trust in You alone. Otherwise, we are no different than the Godless world. May it be fixed in our hearts and minds that NOTHING is too hard for You, and may our lives actively "walk it out." So be it.
