Pilate said, “So you are a king?” Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.” [John 18.37]
In the very next sentence, Pilate went on to ask Jesus, "What is truth?"
Shouldn't we all ask this same question? In a world full of information it has become increasingly more difficult to discern what is truth.
While it would seem at once that Pilate was not offensive toward Jesus, it should also be seen that he was indifferent. In fact, Pilate saw no fault in Jesus but was careless about what to do with that information. He let the opportunity to experience the Truth pass him by.
We should not be so careless.
Father, I understand that Jesus is the Way, Truth and Life. In the overload of information available today, may I be found basing everything else I know on the truth of Jesus. So be it.
