Well, What Do You Know?

Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God. [Mark 12.24]

Mark 12.24, like Matthew 22.29, make a distinct connection between knowing what God says and knowing God's power. In other words, it is futile to want to operate in God's power if we don't know the Bible.

What is evident in this encounter is that those who didn't know the Scriptures were trying to make a religious argument with Jesus as if they did. And, that is consistent with those who don't know the Word of God - all they want to do is argue.

Instead of knowing the power of God, all they knew was conflict. But Jesus knew the Word and, instead of getting embroiled in a heated shouting match, simply called out their ignorance and corrected their assumptions.

Well, what do you know?

Father, may I, like Jesus, walking in Your power not allowing myself to get sucked into ignorant arguments, but simply deferring to Your Word - "Haven't you read...? or "It is written..." So be it.
