Suffering, Financial Disaster, And More Suffering

A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition. [Mark 5.25-29]

For all I have previously written to expose the idolatry of debt, insurance, medicine and technology, this story sums up the futility of that idolatry (in particular, the idol of medicine).

Suffering, financial disaster, and more suffering are all the woman got for her twelve years of homage to medicine.

In a moment however, just a brief touch of Jesus' robe brought complete healing to the poor woman.

Imagine if we spent as much effort to touch Jesus' robe as we do to be "improved" by debt, insurance, medicine and technology! Most will never know.

Father, may Your light shine upon the idols of debt, insurance, medicine and technology today revealing the suffering, financial disaster, and more suffering they inflict upon us never immediately and completely meeting our needs. So be it.
