What Jesus Said

Then he said, “I tell you the truth, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down on the Son of Man, the one who is the stairway between heaven and earth.” [John 1.51] 

What was Jesus saying here?

We can be sure that what it means is confirmed by everything else He said about Himself:

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. [John 3.16-17]

And, Jesus said this:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” [Luke 4.18-19] 

And... 

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. [John 14.6] 

We should also take into account that Jesus said: 

Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures. [John 10.9] 

Jesus said He was "the" gate. He left no room for speculation about this demonstrative claim: 

“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. [Matthew 7.13-14] 

Those who enter through the narrow gate can also easily be identified and confirmed:

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. [John 14.12]

And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.” [Matthew 16.19] 

Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” [John 20.21-23] 

What's more, Jesus taught us to pray for (literally and authoritatively declare) this connection between heaven and earth:

May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. [Matthew 6.10]

The "Jesus connection" between heaven and earth is undeniable (the "stairway,' the "Way," the "gate"). There is NO connection with heaven except exclusively through Jesus. But, when that connection exists, it cannot be kept secret because His glory WILL BE REVEALED:

This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him. [John 2.11]

Again, 

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. [John 14.12] 

Simply put, 

If Christ is in us and we are in Christ, His glory (the works He did) will manifest in us because He is the connection between heaven and earth.

Religion doesn't want to talk about this, but Jesus talked about it all the time.

Father, help us to get with Jesus' conversation, and not religion's! So be it.
