Then Asa cried out to the LORD his God, “O LORD, no one but you can help the powerless against the mighty! Help us, O LORD our God, for we trust in you alone. It is in your name that we have come against this vast horde. O LORD, you are our God; do not let mere men prevail against you!” [2 Chronicles 14.11]
The odds against Judah were not good, humanly speaking.
Asa's prayer above gives a clear picture how we might pray when facing insurmountable odds.
- Acknowledge God's unmatched power (the goal: no one but you can help)
- Depend only on God's unmatched power (the confession: we trust in you alone)
- Say focused on God's unmatched power (the action: in your name we come against)
We should humbly but confidently acknowledge, depend only on, and stay focused on God's unmatched power. Let God be our goal, our confession, and our action.
Father, You are the Almighty Who is the only One Who can save. I have made it my goal, my confession, and my action to trust only You. It is in Your name that I face the forces against me that constantly threaten to kill, steal and destroy. With a great advantage over Asa, however, I am further fortified with the intensity of the Name of Jesus, the Name at which every shall bow in heaven, on earth, and under the earth. So be it.
