Not What We Fear, But That We Fear

Normally it takes only eleven days to travel from Mount Sinai to Kadesh-barnea, going by way of Mount Seir. But forty years after the Israelites left Egypt, on the first day of the eleventh month, Moses addressed the people of Israel, telling them everything the LORD had commanded him to say. [Deuteronomy 1.2-3]

Fear caused an enormous detour for Israel.

Instead of listening to God, Israel looked at their circumstances and it cost them their lives severely delaying younger generations from occupying the Promised Land.

Nothing good came from Israel's fear.

Nothing good comes from our fear.

As with Israel, the real problem is not what we fear (giants). The real problem is that we fear (giants).

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. [Isaiah 41.10]

That we fear is the result of looking upon our problems instead of our Provider.

Father, help us to look to You in faith instead of to our problems in fear. May the years of our lives be spent in fulfillment of faith and not the failure of fear. So be it.
