“Be strong and courageous, for you are the one who will lead these people to possess all the land I swore to their ancestors I would give them. Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” [Joshua 1.6-9]
I believe Joshua is prophetic of Jesus here. If this is the case then, we must furthermore understand that as Joshua is prophetic of Jesus, and we by faith are in Jesus, then Joshua also prophesies of us.
Jesus crossed over from Old Testament covenant to New Testament covenant. He did not deviate from Moses' teaching and He was successful in everything He did. He studied the Book of Instruction continually meditating on it day and night. He prospered in all He did. Jesus faced the Cross on behalf of all mankind strong and courageous - He was not afraid or discouraged because God was with Him.
Now, ready for this?
In Christ, we crossed over from Old Testament covenant to New Testament covenant. In Christ, we do not deviate from Moses' teaching and we are successful in everything we do. We study the Book of Instruction, God's Word, continually meditating on it day and night. We prosper is all we do. We faced our cross every day in the same spirit of ministry and intercession as did Jesus - strong and courageous. We are not afraid or discouraged because God is with us (Immanuel).
Is the paragraph above not so? Then it should be!
Father, may we see Jesus in all the Old Testament writings. And, as we do, may we see ourselves also. So be it!
