He will rescue the poor when they cry to him; he will help the oppressed, who have no one to defend them. He feels pity for the weak and the needy, and he will rescue them. He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him. [Psalm 72.12-14]
This is, in part, what a ruler blessed by God does. In particular, this passage details how a good ruler treats those upon whom hard times have fallen.
By virtue of the fact that this passage defines a "good" king, it also thereby reveals the heart of God. More specifically, it speaks of God's care for those who submit to His rule (His Kingdom).
God is good. This should never be forgotten but rehearsed daily.
Father, may I be found always grateful for Your character as described over and over in the Bible.
