Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Record the names of the members of the clans and families of the Kohathite division of the tribe of Levi. List all the men between the ages of thirty and fifty who are eligible to serve in the Tabernacle. [Numbers 4.1-3]
In light of what Jesus said in John's Gospel, can we "look for Jesus" too much in the Old Testament?
“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! [John 5.39]
I think, as we encounter passage that seem to make no sense at all, we should probably be on our highest alert for Jesus. This will keep us from error.
While there are a couple things in today's OYCB reading that I would like to understand more about (instruction to place the poles in the Ark before moving it when it was previously said the poles should never be removed, and the bitter water that brings a curse on a woman suspected of adultery), it seemed middle-of-the-road for me to discuss something different.
In my reading today, the first thing that stood out to me regarding the Tabernacle and the instructions for moving it was the age 30 - 50 requirement for those who did so.
30 is the age Jesus began His ministry.
50 is time (in years) of the Year of Jubilee when all was righted.
The fact that all the work done in the Tabernacle was by men ages 30-50 could point us to Jesus Who started His ministry at age 30 and Whose death on our behalf, righted all that was wrong.
Father, help me to see Jesus - even those things that are very difficult to understand.
