Don't Miss The Point

The LORD said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. If anyone makes a special vow to dedicate someone to the LORD by paying the value of that person, here is the scale of values to be used. A man between the ages of twenty and sixty is valued at fifty shekels of silver, as measured by the sanctuary shekel. A woman of that age is valued at thirty shekels of silver. [Leviticus 27.1-4]

This has begun to amuse me when I read this. Like the Bible's discussion about slavery and polygamy, its discussion about gender equality is NOT politically correct.

There is nothing about the passage above that should settle well with gender equality activists. Why then hasn't the modern Church been more publicly denounced? I will tell why! Gender activists have nothing to fear from the modern Church because the modern Church does not even live by the Bible (they barely even know what it says)! The three subjects I have mentioned here, gender equality being one of them, are ALL addressed in the Bible in that they are each particularly governed by the Bible and not strictly prohibited.

What's more amusing (sad, really) is that neither the godless world nor God's Church have done a very good job of addressing these issues. If they do argue about these subjects, they do so out of emotion and not their knowledge of the Bible.

The Bible has a "whole" story, and that story is Jesus. He is the head of the Church and we are the Body. Every "issue" mentioned above has beautiful imagery of the bridegroom, Christ, and His bride, the Church. For example, polygamy is not prohibited in the Bible because the Church is many. Slavery is not prohibited in the Bible because the Church is to be benevolent. And so, neither is gender inequality an issue because Christ is God, and He is the indisputable Head (Protector, Caregiver, Provider, Leader, etc.) of the Church.

Jesus said:

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! [John 5.39]

Any argument that does not yield itself to the Light of Jesus, and yet claims Biblical support for their particular stance, has missed the point. To hate the Bible because it does not denounce these issues is to miss the point. To use the Bible to promote these practices independent of their prophetic model of Jesus is to miss the point. The point is Jesus. Period.

Father, help us to see Your Son - Your Redemption of mankind - in all Your Word.
