The Greatness Of God's Power

I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come. God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself. [Ephesians 1.19-23]

The greatness of God's power for us who believe...

If ever there was a statement worthy of meditation, this is it.

This passage acknowledges Jesus far above all authority now and forever as designated by God. This passage also acknowledges Jesus' followers as sharing in that unmatched authority as a benefit of their faith in Him.

In short, there is no excuse for the Body of Christ (the Church) to live in cowed subjection to any way of the fallen world.

Pauls' words here are, at first, overwhelming in their encouragement, But then, they are also damning in their implications if that power is not present. This passage serves to divide those who believe from those who do not. It provides the critical identifying characteristics (power) of those who believe thus also identifying those who do not believe by the absence of those characteristics (power).

Hmm.

Ouch.

Father, may my life reflect on the power of Your Holy Spirit at work in and through me because of Jesus Christ!
