May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ. [2 Thessalonians 3.5]
Paul said some pretty amazing and encouraging things. The verse above is no exception.
As we consider what a relationship with God is at its core, we will certainly come to love. Paul encouraged a full understanding and expression of God's love along with the endurance of Jesus.
A full understanding of God's love will take a lifetime - and then, that will still not exhaust the implications of His love. There is no better source to gain this understanding of God's love than His own Word.
Only in the increased understanding of God's love then can one express God's love. Herein is our life-mission: to love as God loved us. To understand God's love is to express it!
As God's Word is the source of understanding God's love, naturally, Jesus Christ, the Living Word, sheds laser-accurate light upon what God's love does. It would seem then that patient endurance is necessary because that is what Jesus demonstrated. Jesus' patient endurance was demonstrated nowhere more profoundly than when on the Cross He said, "Father forgive them, for they don't know what they are doing" (Luke 23.34).
2 Thessalonians 3.5 is an excellent prayer to pray over people. It is an excellent prayer to pray over ourselves!
Father, lead our hearts into a full understanding and expression of Your love and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.
