Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed, for they still didn’t understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in. [Mark 6.51-52]
For years, the second part of the passage above has puzzled me. Jesus had just walked on the water and then Mark records that they still did not understand the significance of Jesus feeding the 5000. What?!
Today, it seems clear that what Mark was conveying was that God's will would not be limited by physical laws of nature. It didn't matter if it was walking on water or feeding 5000, God's plan for His followers was, and is, to provide whatever they need to move forward with His will.
As difficult as it is for us to fathom Jesus feeding the 5000 or walking on water, both prove what Jesus Himself said:
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. [Matthew 6.33]
God really does provide where He leads. Miracles are "just another day at the office" for those truly following in the steps of Jesus.
Are we following?
The proof would be in the miracles, then, wouldn't it?
God help us!
Father, help us to survey our lives for Your telltale provision that we are in Your will. Forgive us as we realize how obviously powerless our lives are!
