Overwhelmed

Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her. [Luke 1.38]

As a daily routine, every believer in Christ would do well to say these words to God (in response to His message or messenger): "May everything you have said about me come true."

Naturally, it would behoove the person quoting the sentence above to know what everything declared by God's Word is! This can only be achieved one way: by learning and knowing God's Word!

Interestingly enough, the very preceding verse says this:

For the word of God will never fail. [Luke 1.37]

If God's Word will never fail, why wouldn't we invest every effort into knowing exactly what His Word says? One can only answer this question with some very negative responses, all of which arise from a general lack of faith.

It might benefit the reader to look at Luke 1.37 in the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible too (and it will probably sound more familiar):

For with God nothing will be impossible. [Luke 1.37 NKJV]

The NKJV only further broadens our understanding that, what God speaks, God gets.

However, God does not want robot-like, pre-programmed relationship with man, so, for that reason, He gave man freewill. God wants relationship with man based on man's decided choice to also engage in that relationship. This is precisely why man was able to (and did) "fall" in the Garden of Eden. So, for this reason, God put the condition of obedience upon man so that his choice to obey indicated his desire to be in relationship with God. Before Jesus' Advent, obedience was achieved through meticulous laws and regulations. After Jesus' resurrection obedience is achieved through faith in Him (Jesus) - the obedience of faith. Amazingly, both sides of obedience are understood in the following passage from Isaiah:

But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. [Isaiah 40.31]

Here is a good place to say, "May everything you have said about me come true!

In the Old Testament, those who trust in the LORD were those who obeyed the Law of Moses. Now, those who trust in the LORD are those who fully believe in Jesus and all He is in and through them (still obedience).

So... what Has God said about us in Christ? There is simply not enough time within the scope of this writing today to answer this question! Suffice it to say, in Christ, every promise of God is lavished upon us, the most important of which is, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy” (Matthew 3.17).

Overwhelmed yet?

Father, May everything you have said about me come true!
