What Am I Supposed To Be Doing?

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. [Psalm 119.105]

What am I supposed to be doing?

How many times have we said or heard this regarding our walk with, or service to, God?

If anyone is paying attention today, the Word has told us exactly what to do...

So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. [John 1.14]

"Jesus" is what we are supposed to be doing! In His own words, Jesus made very clear what our lives are to be and do:

Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. [John 20.21-22]

We are to be "Jesus" in the world today. Any person or teaching who discounts or outright refutes this is wrong.

Jesus is the Lamp to guide my feet and the Light for my path. As I walk in Christ, I walk in God's will. As I walk in Christ, I do God's will.

The amazing thing about Psalm 119 is that the entire chapter is specifically about God's Word. It is specifically about Jesus! Jesus confirmed that as well:

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! [John 5.39]

Jesus spoke of His own life like this:

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come.” [Luke 4.18-19]

And so, there is our mission!

But, let's assume we could sum up Jesus Christ in one word... What would that word be? Forgiveness. So, if we likewise summed up our mission in one word, it would be the same: forgiveness.

Forgiveness opens the windows of heaven. Let's look again at John 20 (cited above) and include the rest of what Jesus said there:

Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, they are forgiven. If you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.” [John 20.21-23]

I know most people "choke" on John 20.23, but Jesus said it. It IS our duty. It IS our mission.

So, what am I supposed to be doing? You can be sure it starts and ends with forgiveness!

Father, help us to see the simplicity of Your will for our lives, and just do it.

Brother Greg,
Such an awesome and amazingly inspiring word as always. You have set our hearts and minds on fire again and again with your straightforward strategy of the simplicity of His Word. People make it so hard but it is so simplistic. Walk as Jesus.
Jesus forgave, so forgive.
Jesus healed, so heal.
Jesus set the captives free, so deliver the captives.
Jesus lit the world up, so light up the world.
Jesus loved all, so love all!
Love ya brother I always appreciate your words of wisdom.
