Trust In The LORD

Those who trust in the LORD are as secure as Mount Zion; they will not be defeated but will endure forever. Just as the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, both now and forever. The wicked will not rule the land of the godly, for then the godly might be tempted to do wrong. O LORD, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you. But banish those who turn to crooked ways, O LORD. Take them away with those who do evil. May Israel have peace! [Psalm 125]

Trust in the LORD. I think this is a phrase that is much easier said than done. I think it is also a phrase that is much more abstract than it is actual today.

Why would I say such a thing? Simply because the Bible repeatedly declares there are certain and recognizable blessings on those who trust in the LORD, but those certain and recognizable blessings are largely missing from most who claim to trust in the LORD. See the problem?

Either the Bible (God's Word) is wrong or our "trust in the LORD" is not what we think it is! The proof is in the presence or absence of blessings. (hint: the Bible is not wrong!)

As uncomfortable a position as it places me in, I find myself repeatedly pointing this problem out. If we, who confess "faith" are not blessed, then something is wrong! How can the Body of Christ today think its powerless existence is okay? How can the Body of Christ today not be alarmed by this condition? I know it alarms me and that is why I constantly bring up the subject!

Besides the fact that I need blessings in my life, the Bible is clear that I should have them IF I trust in the LORD! I, for one, see the need to change whatever it is I think trust is into real trust that has results!

Not unlike Psalm 125, Jesus makes a declaration that should also alarm those of us who lack in anything (blessings):

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. [Matthew 6.33]

Few are willing to say, "The Bible is wrong!" But even fewer are willing to admit, "If the Bible is right, then I am wrong!" Instead, faith and trust are allowed to become abstract:

Ab·stract [from Merriam-Webster, https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/abstract]

adjective

1

a: disassociated from any specific instance (an abstract entity)

b: difficult to understand : ABSTRUSE (abstract problems)

c: insufficiently factual : FORMAL (possessed only an abstract right)

The faith Jesus taught that would move mountains heal the sick, and raise the dead cannot be called abstract, can it? And yet, that is largely the condition of faith in the Church today.

Church, it is time for abstract faith to end and mountain-moving faith to begin!

Father, help us to purge our lives and thinking of abstract faith. Forgive us for unbelief! Help us to genuinely trust in You with every resultant blessing.
