I know the greatness of the LORD—that our Lord is greater than any other god. The LORD does whatever pleases him throughout all heaven and earth, and on the seas and in their depths. He causes the clouds to rise over the whole earth. He sends the lightning with the rain and releases the wind from his storehouses. [Psalm 135.5-7]
A storm passed through near our area last night. It missed my particular house and most of our town, but I understand it caused damage in some other areas.
I believe that the more we understand passages like Psalm 135.5-7, the more we will turn to God. Consequently, the less we meditate on God's Word, the more we will turn to science (and its circumstances) with our understanding. In reality, most simply just attribute the weather to science. But, there is a problem with that...
The prevailing thought today is that weather is simply the result of natural scientific processes. However, there is a caveat: that same prevailing thought places man as an influence upon the science. This makes perfect sense based on all man's knowledge about cause-and-effect and man's alteration of natural resources. I have even developed my own theories about "climate change" and have confidently declared it to anyone who will listen.
So, what's the problem? Psalm 135.5-7 says God controls the weather (not man).
Now, we know anyone with any sense whatsoever knows how much science has advanced! Doesn't it just seem foolish to say, "God controls the weather!" when we know good and well that it is simply the result of scientific processes (some of which man contributes to)?
I will not insert any suggestion here how intelligent or knowledgeable I am (it would only prove futile) but I will simply say this: at one point in time, prevailing scientific thought was that the earth was flat. For this reason, and until science can say with full and absolute knowledge that it knows all there is to know, then I will just stick with the Bible. I fully expect that if science were to ever reach the point it could self-confirm its all-knowing capacity, it would only confirm that God exists and rules over everything - hence, the Bible was right all along (as it has been over and again).
We should be weary by now of trying to define God by science. Instead, why not define science by God?
Father, the world thinks Christianity is foolish anyway, so why should I worry about believing You control the weather?
