Speak Your Faith

Who but God goes up to heaven and comes back down? Who holds the wind in his fists? Who wraps up the oceans in his cloak? Who has created the whole wide world? What is his name—and his son’s name? Tell me if you know! [Proverbs 30.4]

If we do not rehearse (to the point of belief) these basic facts about God, we are unlikely to grasp any other fact about Him.

First, God moves about unrestrained. He is everywhere.

Next, the wind is completely under His control - the weather is entirely His doing.

Everything about the ocean is controlled by God.

Finally, He created everything.

The sad truth is, far too few are convinced of these facts. Instead, people are confident in their scientific understanding of weather and the tides and consequently 'ride the fence' regarding God's existence and having created everything. This mindset, over time, erodes into full blown unbelief.

The erosion starts with something like this: "Has God really said...?" What follows will be one of two things: an unbending quote of God's Word ("It is written..."), or, a modification of belief that serves as the initial 'hole in the dam' that is ground zero for catastrophic failure.

How does one avoid the catastrophic failure mentioned above? By rehearsing God's Word in our minds and with our mouths beyond memorization into conviction and belief.

The problem with an unmovable confession of God's Word in the face of natural facts (as the world sees it) is that it is closely associated with the straight and narrow way that few find. In a word, it will be unpopular. Even worse, it will be ostracized and condemned. The world and its proponents will mockingly say, "Has God really said..." In truth, this is happening unrestricted and unrestrained right now. The catchphrase of the last few years has become, "Believe the science."

To repeat, the only way to avoid a catastrophic failure of faith is to meditate on and openly declare God's Word.

Faith in God starts like this:

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [Romans 10.9]

But it does not end there! The confession of Jesus is only the beginning. Jesus Himself taught the significance of speaking to circumstances:

I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. [Mark 11.23]

Why would we ever "speak to a mountain" expecting something to change? Because God spoke to nothing and created the earth! Herein lies the point of this argument: if we have no concrete belief in the fact that God spoke and the earth came into existence, we have no hope in obediently speaking to circumstances as we are commanded by Jesus to do - we have no hope in being the Body of Christ on earth.

Father, I want to think about and speak my faith in You -Who called things that were not as though they were...
