“For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me—the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all! [Jeremiah 2.13]
God is just not much into sharing. He wants our trust to be in Him alone. There is no scriptural indication that God allows for anything to supplement for what He Himself said He would do and provide in our lives. It is man who allows himself to look to idols (cracked cisterns) for that which God promised to provide.
The real twist on this is that man claims God uses the idols in our lives. How? "I know God heals, but He uses medicine."
Question: Can God heal without medicine? Everyone quickly answers, "Of course He can!"
So, if God can heal and we want nothing more that to please Him (remember, only undivided faith pleases God), why would we ever want to include anything in our healing that could possibly draw our trust away from God alone? It just doesn't make sense!
Even if we claim we are only trusting God but using medicine, is it not a "cracked cistern" that at any moment could inadvertently be trusted in instead of God?
Father, may our trust in You be undivided and pure!
