Praise the LORD, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle. He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him. He makes the nations submit to me. [Psalm 144.1-2]
Most people don't think of hands and fingers when they think of battle and the necessary strength to do so. In fact, most think of strong arms and legs, right? So what is up with trained hands and fingers?
Psalm 144 is a Psalm of David. Herein lies a clue why hands and fingers might be so important. While one usually does not think of hands and fingers when considering the skill needed for physical battle, that whole idea changes when one sees that spiritual warfare is executed in the playing of instruments! David was a musician!
Think about it. David's skill playing the harp (stringed instrument) was so spiritually powerful that it could control a fierce demonic spirit upon Saul. Just let that soak in...
And then, David continued in Psalm 144 to say following the covering of trained hands and fingers for battle that God was his ally and fortress, tower of safety, rescuer, shield, place of refuge, and consequently that nations submitted to him (David).
It is no small thing to carry the anointing of God in music.
Father, help Your Church today to understand the power of music at the hands and fingers of Your anointed ones!
