The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God. [Psalm 51.17]
Humility before God is good. It is always good.
Of course, obedience still remains better than sacrifice, but who among us is capable of obedience all the time? None.
Because there is none perfect but God, humanity then would do well to learn true humility and repentance. However, society at large (the Church included) would rather spend their time on self-help, self-forgiveness (what in the world is that??), self-improvement, and self-love in general. One has only to open his or her eyes to see evidence of self-centeredness all around.
Sadly, the Church focuses very little in the topic of repentance and humility.
This will change however. The time is upon us in which our pride and selfish pursuits are yielding nothing of lasting value. Nothing good is able to live and thrive in the shallow pool of infatuation with self. Yes, revival is necessarily coming...
However, just as some will recognize the error of selfishness when confronted with it, others (and sadly the majority) will only further embrace it in blatant disregard of Christ's example on the Cross. The "sheep" and "goats" will be separated.
For the "sheep," there will be revival. The power of God will once again be openly demonstrated. For the "goats," well, they, in self-preserving pride, will persecute the sheep. We are already seeing this take shape...
The difference between the sheep and the goats will, without doubt, be the presence or absence of genuine humility and repentance.
Father, may I be found humble and repentant!
