Not The End Of The Story

Then Balaam left and returned home, and Balak also went on his way. [Numbers 24.25]

This is evidently not the end of the story.

“But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin. [Revelation 2.14]

For all the Sunday School lessons and teachings about Balaam, the story is simply not complete unless one knows the Revelation account of his life.

The statement above is true for other characters in the Bible. Job comes to mind as well as others.

It is important that we do not base our understanding of God on one particular passage of Scripture! We should instead understand God and His ways from the entirety of the Bible. In so doing, we see that there was more to Balaam than Numbers recorded - it would not be until the Revelation of John that we learn the nasty truth of Balaam's life.

Similarly, even though we are presented a "righteous" Job at the beginning of the story, the end of the story reveals a Job who very much had to (and did) repent.

This brings into focus our own lives! Our life story is not over until it is over.

There is reason to stay true to God and His plan with all diligence until the day we die.

Father, help me to remain mindful of my need to press in to You every day!
