Salt

Season all your grain offerings with salt to remind you of God’s eternal covenant. Never forget to add salt to your grain offerings. [Leviticus 2.13]

I never thought of salt as a reminder of God's eternal covenant! But I will from now on! Who would have thought?

Salt serves a couple of purposes as far as I know: it adds flavor and it preserves. It seems appropriate then that salt should remind us of God's 1) eternal 2) covenant! How? "Eternal" in salt's preservation quality, and "covenant" in salt's flavor quality (broadly based on God's goodness).

Wow.

Father, help me to be reminded of Your eternal covenant every time I have salt!
