And they replied, “We both had dreams last night, but no one can tell us what they mean.” “Interpreting dreams is God’s business,” Joseph replied. “Go ahead and tell me your dreams.” [Genesis 40.8]
I want to include another Scripture to go along with this one above:
“It is beyond my power to do this,” Joseph replied. “But God can tell you what it means and set you at ease.” [Genesis 41.16]
I've had many ideas about Joseph in the past, but today, another thought has entered my mind as a real possibility regarding Joseph...
What if Joseph knew in advance all that would happen to him?
We must remember that Joseph had dreams when he was a boy. It is not far-fetched to believe he was fully capable of interpreting dreams even back at that time. If this statement is the case, it could help explain Joseph's good attitude and hard work ethic that landed him in the position of #2 in charge of all Egypt.
It seems further plausible that Joseph knew the interpretation of Pharoah's dream before Pharoah even had it. I only make this conjecture because Joseph seemed ready with a plan of action for Pharoah that sounded pre-planned.
My conclusion of all this is that Joseph had begun a relationship with God long before he was ever thrown into the cistern and then sold to slave traders. While many may speculate that Joseph was "blindly faithful" I tend to lean (at this time) to the idea that Joseph knew exactly what was coming and was simply patient in the process.
Bottom line: We don't have a relationship with God because great things happen in our lives. Instead, great things happen in our lives because we have a relationship with God!
Boom!
Father, forgive me for years of waiting for great things to happen in my life to really focus on relationship with You. Help me to be in such a relationship with You that I simply walk out the steps necessary to turn the dreams into reality.
