BUT...

Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins. Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.” [Mark 12.41-44]

What just happened here?

Jesus revealed the difference between religion and a true relationship of faith and trust in God. The two are polar opposites.

A true relationship with God is one of faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. So, one cannot claim to have a 'relationship with God' but not walk in demonstrative faith as did the widow by her giving all she had.

Oh how uncomfortable this scripture makes us! The implications on us are serious... BUT.....

BUT....

        BUT....

If we had no other story or teaching about faith, this widow's story stands firmly as a flagship example of what real faith looks like.

                    BUT....

Father, please forgive my claim to faith followed by my actions of fear and unbelief...
