Jesus replied, “Marriage is for people here on earth. But in the age to come, those worthy of being raised from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage. And they will never die again. In this respect they will be like angels. They are children of God and children of the resurrection. [Luke 20.34-36]
I am just going to say this... It's blunt, but the scriptures support it. People get all emotional about seeing loved ones when they get to heaven. But, Jesus indicated that our worldly emotional relationships have nothing to do with heaven. In fact, heaven is all about God's children being with Him. He is the focus and He is the center of all attention.
Our worldly view of heaven is simply wrong. Our emotional claims about seeking out our loved ones in heaven is short-sighted at best. Heaven is about God.
Will we know our spouses and loved ones in heaven? Here's a pointed question in reply: Does it matter? The answer is, "no, it doesn't matter." The glory of God's presence will so overwhelm us that nothing else will even matter.
This is hard to swallow, but we simply cannot measure heaven by earthly emotional standards!
Rather than measuring heaven by our earthly standards, we should instead measure earth by heaven's standards! Doing the latter only improves the standards for earthly relationships. But doing the former is a gross failure to understand the infinite uniqueness of heaven because it is where God dwells.
Father, help us to resist the temptation to measure heaven by our earthly emotional standards and instead see heaven more clearly for what it truly is - union with You!
