Then I, myself, will be a protective wall of fire around Jerusalem, says the LORD. And I will be the glory inside the city!’” [Zechariah 2.5]
There is a phrase in this verse worthy of our attention.
I will be the glory inside the city!
The significance of this phrase is that God is the glory. Jesus said this:
After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began. [John 17.1-5]
If we are not set upon the glory of God, we are misguided and mistaken.
If our every action is not intent upon bringing glory to God, we are in error.
It is high time we understand that we have been given faith to glorify God. Faith is the only thing that pleases God, therefore, it is conclusive that to give God glory, we must act upon faith! So much should we believe this that, we should be repentant when our faith does not accomplish its intended purpose!
I will take this so far as to say it should cause us shame to pray God's will over another person's life (healing, provision, peace, etc...) and not see it happen. Why? Because God gave us faith to please Him and if our faith is without works, it is useless (James 2.20)?
There is no way useless faith brings God glory! Our faith is useless when WE are the glory of it and not GOD! See the difference?
Perhaps we expend far too much energy on exercising "our" faith instead of acting upon the faith of God within us! There is a difference. "Our" faith has a defeating adjective attached to it: "our." If instead, we simply obey the faith of God within us, then it is God's glory and therefore God's good success.
Father, You are the glory in us. Yours is the faith in us. Yours is the glory for the works You do as we respond to faith. Forgive me, Father, for seeing it any other way!
